My favorite designs: Alfa Romeo 159
Yes, that’s the one! One of my favorite designs ever. In red color in a wagon body type, big wheels and beige leather interior. Just best combination in the world. If someone would ask me, which car I’d choose (out of affordable ones) Alfa Romeo 159 will be my answer. And I don’t care that it is unreliable, quite rare and it’s difficult to find a service, just look how beautiful it is! There’s nothing to change in this car.
Streamlining waistline, muscular rear fenders, triple cylindrical front light cluster, a prominent bonnet and of course sexy triangle Alfa’s front grill! Even the latest Alfa’s don’t look so tempting. I cannot find enough words to describe all the beauty of Giugiaro’s creation.
The great sentence I read on www.autoexpress.co.uk:
If you’re buying with your head, you probably won’t be tempted — but if you’re buying with your heart, the 159 makes sense.
And you should do it only this way.
I was thinking that I’ll have some words to say about this car, but more I dug into the story of this car (cannot say history, because basically there’s no history) the more I’ve understood that Alfa 159 didn’t leave a significant footprint in the automotive history. More over 159 took a lot of negative reviews in different ratings and user feedbacks. One of the main flaws of this car is an excessive weight. Initially built on Epsilon platform which was designed for E-class cars, Alfa Romeo 159 has been positioned in D-class. Paired with underpowered engines didn’t give a credit to that combination. Nice engines like petrol 1750 TBi came significantly later which was too late to save Alfa 159.
It’s very sad to admit but Alfa Romeo 159 as one of the most beautiful designs failed as a car. Just not delivering according to the high public expectations. Trying to bite German trio apparently became too ambitious goal for Italian carmaker.
